Tisha B'Av Study with ATWR: "I Ain't Got No Home"—The Midrash on Exile & Rootedness

“I ain’t got no home in this world anymore,” sang the great troubadour Woody Guthrie. It’s a song of rootlessness and yearning for home—perfect themes for Tisha B’Av.

Tisha B’Av is a day devoted to reflections on the Jewish ideas of Exile and Home. The classic Midrashim share some remarkable interpretations of the idea of dispersion (or “rambling” in Woody’s jargon) and return. To mark this significant time in the calendar, we’ll explore some of these offbeat and remarkably heartfelt texts, which should provide some new insights into this day and its themes.

If you’ve wondered why Judaism offers such a serious day in the middle of summer — or if you’ve felt in the recent past a sense of rootlessness in a world that once made more sense — then this class is for you! Come spend the morning of the 9th of Av with our online community of learners — all are welcome.

There is no charge for this event. If you’d like to support our work and growth, we always welcome your support here with appreciation and gratitude.
