Jewish Mysticism: An Introduction

Starting OCTOBER 27, 2025:
Three 4-part modules on Monday evenings this fall and winter

Since earliest times, spiritual traditions have spawned seekers who have sought out the hidden and mysterious nature of existence. To discover these hidden mysteries, mystics have sought alternative techniques for understanding: meditation, music and dance, altered consciousness, and more - including creative readings of sacred texts.

Jewish mysticism can be traced to its earliest roots in the time of the Bible; it emerged as a counterculture in the time of the early Rabbis, and found its full flourishing during the spiritual revolution in medieval Spain and the Land of Israel.

In this course, we’ll explore those early roots of Jewish mystical experiences that came to be known as Kabbalah. Our course will unfold in three 4-week modules, beginning with its Biblical roots in October. We’ll read sacred texts that reveal an unexpected mystical vein in Judaism, and we’ll discuss how these trends inform the life of Jewish seekers today. Each class will include a short meditative reflection on that session’s themes. ALL ARE WELCOME to join us!
